Does Zoom Phone work in South Africa, and how does FirstNet provide it?

Cloud PBX & Unified Communications · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Yes. Zoom Phone works in South Africa through a Zoom Provider Exchange partner, because Zoom does not provide phone numbers in South Africa on its own. FirstNet is a certified Zoom Provider Exchange partner that supplies ICASA-licensed local numbers, porting, implementation and support for Zoom Phone and Zoom Contact Centre.

In detail

How it works:

  • Zoom hosts the phone system and contact centre; your Zoom admin selects FirstNet as the voice provider, with no separate carrier portal.
  • FirstNet issues new geographic, non-geographic and toll-free numbers, or ports your existing numbers in.
  • Calls route over FirstNet's interconnects with Telkom, Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and other licensees.
  • Premium-rate and exotic destinations are blocked by default, and a 24/7 network operations centre monitors for toll fraud.
  • Zoom licences, voice and numbers come on one FirstNet invoice.

Most users need a Zoom Phone Pro licence, supervisors add the Power Pack, and shared reception or warehouse phones use a Common Area licence. Local support is available in English and Afrikaans. Some users can also stay on an existing PBX through FirstNet SIP Trunks while others move to Zoom Phone.
