Short answer
No. FirstNet AI Transcription is a productivity tool for coaching, quality review and follow-up. Regulated, audit-grade recording with retention policies and legal hold is provided by FirstNet Compliance Recording.
In detail
How the two differ:
- AI Transcription gives live and post-call transcripts, AI summaries of topics, decisions and action items, speaker identification and searchable call logs in the PBX portal.
- Compliance Recording gives tamper-proof storage with AES-256 encryption, MFA, granular permissions, retention policies, legal hold, audit logs and controlled sharing.
- Compliance Recording supports compliance programmes for POPIA, FAIS, FICA, PCI-DSS and other frameworks, across Teams, Zoom, PBX and contact-centre calls.
Many regulated businesses use both: AI Transcription for day-to-day productivity, and Compliance Recording for the archive that audits and disputes rely on. FirstNet does not promise 100% transcription accuracy, which is another reason transcripts are positioned as a working aid rather than the record of the call.
Retention matters too. FSCA and FAIS-regulated firms commonly keep advice-call recordings for five years, and POPIA requires a consent prompt on recorded lines, which FirstNet Compliance Recording configures and tests during activation. Final compliance still depends on your own policies and configuration.
