How resilient is FirstNet's Durban data centre?

Colocation Services · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

FirstNet's Durban data centre is a purpose-built Tier III-standard facility designed, owned and operated by FirstNet, with power and cooling designed to have no single point of failure. It is certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001.

In detail

Resilience and security features:

  • Redundant UPS with backup generators holding over 24 hours of full-load fuel
  • N+1 precision cooling with hot and cold aisle containment
  • White space kept around 22 °C ± 2 °C and 40 to 50% humidity
  • 24x7 security, biometric access control, CCTV and fire suppression
  • Diverse fibre paths from multiple carriers, with direct ties into FirstNet's core network
  • Environmental monitoring around the clock by FirstNet's Rapid Response team

Each rack receives redundant A and B power feeds, A/B failover is tested before handover, and environmental sensors track temperature, humidity and leaks.

FirstNet Durban suits KwaZulu-Natal organisations moving out of server rooms, national customers that need a Durban-region DR site, and hybrid designs where colocated hardware connects directly to FirstNet's private cloud. Availability commitments are set out in your contracted SLA rather than as a blanket promise, so raise any contractual uptime requirement with FirstNet during discovery.
