Short answer
Yes. FirstNet IP Transit supports IPv4 and IPv6, and IPv6 enablement can be added as your network evolves.
In detail
IPv6 is the newer internet addressing standard, with a far larger address space than IPv4, and many operators run both side by side while their customers and services migrate. FirstNet IP Transit accommodates that approach:
- Requirements: a public ASN, a router running BGP v4, and IPv4 and/or IPv6 support
- BGP set-up: FirstNet establishes the BGP session and route exchange with your router during onboarding
- Upgrade path: IPv6 enablement is one of the common upgrades, alongside more capacity, redundant ports or dual paths, and Protected IP Transit
- Responsibility: ASN and IP space compliance, routing policy and traffic engineering remain yours
The transit itself is a Layer 3, BGP-based service that gives your Autonomous System access to the global routing table through FirstNet's upstream and peering ecosystem, which includes direct peering at NAPAfrica, JINX, CINX and DINX.
If you are planning an IPv6 rollout, raise it during onboarding or at a capacity review so it can be scoped with the rest of your transit design.
