Short answer
FirstNet IP Transit is a capacity-based wholesale service, usually on longer-term agreements, with the exact term and renewal confirmed during commercial engagement. Support and service commitments cover the FirstNet transit domain, backbone and ports, while your routing policy remains your responsibility.
In detail
What you are buying is uncontended transit capacity: a Layer 3, BGP-based service that gives your Autonomous System access to the global routing table through FirstNet's upstream and peering ecosystem. The service can grow with you, and common upgrades include:
- More capacity as traffic grows
- Redundant ports or dual paths
- IPv6 enablement
- Protected IP Transit, a FirstNet-engineered redundant service design
To qualify, you need a public ASN, a router running BGP v4, and IPv4 and/or IPv6 support. Onboarding runs through ASN validation, port provisioning, BGP set-up and end-to-end testing before handover.
The service suits ISPs and WISPs, hosting, cloud and data centre operators, CDNs, and enterprises with in-house network engineering, and can be your only upstream or one of several. If you need managed internet for offices rather than wholesale transit, Dedicated Internet Access is the better fit.
