How quickly can FirstNet add new sites to our connectivity network?

National Footprint & Global Reach · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

FirstNet uses standardised processes and templates to accelerate provisioning and turn-up, so new sites follow a predictable path rather than a fresh project each time. How fast an individual site goes live depends mainly on its last-mile technology and approvals.

In detail

Typical lead times by access type:

  • LTE/5G: often live within a few working days
  • Licensed microwave: installation can follow within weeks once line of sight is confirmed
  • Fixed wireless: depends on coverage and capacity at the address
  • Fibre: typically several weeks to months, depending on construction, wayleaves and landlord approvals
  • LEO satellite: generally faster to deploy than a new fibre build

At scale, FirstNet delivers over 300 new business links every month and has delivered more than 1,700 sites for a single customer at a rate of over 170 per month. Every link follows the same sequence: order intake, feasibility validation, provisioning, install and test, service handover, then NOC monitoring.

To open a site before its fibre is ready, FirstNet can use the temporary wireless first pattern: LTE/5G in days, with the fibre primary built in parallel.
